Shrinky dinks and more

We will create jewelry, key chains, sun catchers and more with shrinky dinks.
Participants should bring: Your creativity and an open mind. You may also bring your own permanent markers, stamps, or pictures you’d like to work with.

Water Exercise for Merfolk and Water Warriors
Amy Collins
Come enjoy water exercises for all fitness levels (age 16+) that will improve strength, range of motion, and endurance. Defy gravity while the water, foam pool noodles and water weights provide resistance and support during a fast hour that will include stretching, and various movements of arms, legs and abdominal muscles for a full body work out. Most movements can be adapted to accommodate injuries or mobility limitations. Class may be in deep or shallow water, or both, depending on pool access.
Participants should bring: Your swim suits! Additional equipment will be provided, but if you have your own water weights, noodle, or a water belt that you prefer, bring them! Sometimes our numbers exceed the available equipment.
Amy has been teaching a variety of water aerobics classes at her local YMCA for >20 years and for many years, pool permitting, at Summer Institute and Winter Institute. She is a lifelong UU, and a Commissioned Lay Leader who hails from the UU Congregation of Cleveland.
Folk Orchestra
Pat Lorei
For instrumentalists with some music reading experience (approximately middle school level). Folk orchestra provides music for the adult vespers services during the week of SI, and possibly other performances as well. We try to “mix it up” for the benefit of the SI community and musicians by trying a variety of types of tunes: traditional folk, ethnic tunes, free form, jazz, Beatles – and more!
Participants should bring: Bring your musical instrument and a folding music stand if you have one. Pat will need to know if you have an instrument other than the usual C-Bb-Eb-bass clef notation, so he can write out the notation as needed.
Pat will soon retire from a 32 year career as Program Specialist working with disabled adults. He has attended SI for many many years and was on the planning committee “back in the day”. He still plays in an acoustic band (Bus 17) and a wedding band (the Mar-Vels) in the Erie, PA area.

Tie Dye – Now featured both early and late afternoon! (2:00-4:00)
Lexi Hayman-Staples and Torie Thorne
At Summer Institute, Tie Dye is a time honored tradition. If you haven’t tie dyed with us yet, this is YOUR year!!! There are tie dyers of all experience/skill levels – from first timers to those who create elaborate designs. Everyone is welcome!
T-Shirts, sweatpants, pillow cases, stained clothing, canvas shoes… the sky is the limit. Questions on how to tie or dye? Just ask Lexi or Torie! Many white or light items will accept dye but mostly or all cotton fabrics work best.
The last dye will begin 15 minutes before the workshop ends, to ensure there are enough volunteers to help everyone. Limit of 3 items per person.
Participants should bring: One to three garments. 80% cotton or higher.
Lexi is an artist and lifelong UU and is so excited to get back to that SI Magic. This SI enthusiast has enjoyed working with campers of all ages to create stylish Tie Dye for many years.
Torie is a talented creator of many things and has the “eye to dye”, just check out her sweet duds… she wears lots of her creations. SI is a place where she feels relaxed, recharged and at home.
